Last Saturday, February 18, Sensei Judy brought three students to San Diego to compete in an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Pacific Southwest Karate Tournament. Overall, FKU competed in 9 events and came home with 5 medals!
- Henry won gold in the 15-17 Year-Old Boys Advanced Kumite! Henry was also invited onto a sparring team while we were at the tournament, and his team took the silver in ultimate rotational team sparring.
- Phoebe won silver in the 15-17 Year-Old Girls Advanced Kata with their performance of Seinchin.
- Eleanor won bronze in the 15-17 Year-Old Girls Advanced Kumite, even though she’s only 14!
- Sensei Judy won silver in the 18+ Womens Blackbelt Kumite and silver in 35+ Womens Blackbelt Kata.
So, when you see them, please congratulate Henry Adams, Phoebe Keran, and Eleanor Adams on a great showing at UCSD!
Check out the photos below to get a sense of what a karate tournament is like. Anyone interested in competing should talk to Sensei Judy. It’s never too early to start competing. Students as young as 5 years old participate, from white belt on up, and FKU has classes each week focused on tournament skills.
