We want all students at FKU to feel like tournament participation is an option for them. From Sensei Aleeta:
Transgender and non-binary students may have concerns about participating in binary gender-segregated tournaments and hence be hesitant to enter competitions. We as a school support their right to compete in whatever division feels safest and most honoring of their gender identity.
Our instructors and dojo leadership will work with our transgender and non-binary students to understand their specific concerns, support them in navigating the tournament process, protect them from discrimination, cultivate self-advocacy and allyship, and seek to model inclusion for the greater martial arts community. We will also strive to expand those rights politically over time and try to come up with creative solutions that will work for everyone.
If you have questions or concerns about tournament participation, please ask Sensei Aleeta.
